ATP – Malicious file detected in a library – SharePoint, OneDrive & Teams

People regularly share files and collaborate using SharePoint, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams. With Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection (ATP), your organization can collaborate in a safer manner. ATP helps detect and block files that are identified as malicious in team sites and document libraries.

How Office 365 ATP operates

When a file in SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, and Microsoft Teams has been identified as malicious, ATP directly integrates with the file stores to lock that file. The following image shows an example of a malicious file detected in a library.

Files in OneDrive for Business with one detected as malicious

Although the blocked file is still listed in the document library and web, mobile, or desktop applications, the blocked file cannot be opened, copied, moved, or shared. People can, however, delete a blocked file. Here’s an example of what that looks like on a user’s mobile device:

Deleting a blocked file from OneDrive for Business from the OneDrive mobile app

Depending on how Microsoft 365 is configured, people might or might not have the ability to download a blocked file. Here’s what downloading a blocked file looks like on a user’s mobile device:

If you are losing your connection during screen sharing.

Or Microsoft Teams Client crashes and restarts automatically.

You will need to view the Microsoft Teams debug logs to troubleshoot the issues. Or if you are the End User, this is how to get the logs to send to your Support Engineers to troubleshoot..

Open Microsoft Teams, and on your keyboard, select Ctrl+Alt+Shift+1

You will see these files in your downloads folder;

In another post, I will walk you through each log file and how to read it .. Stay tuned.

Announce when callers join or leave could be noisy if thousands are attending

In a Live Event, with thousands of attendees, joining and leaving … if we keep this option “On” .. “Announce when callers join or leave”, it will be difficult to hear the presenter.

Here is how to disable it without going to Microsoft Teams Admin Center; in the meeting click, Meeting options; and besides “Announce when callers join or leave”; mark it as “No”.

The previous post, I showed you how to get an excel file with the list of attendees.. here I want to talk to you about the values of this excel file..

Basically, I was testing with my husband 🙂

The column header called “Action” has the status whether;

  • Joined,
  • Left
  • Reconnected
  • …..

Where you can filter this excel file and have an understanding of how people are participating all the time in the event.

You will see a section called “Live Event Resources” where you can download the recording and the attendees engagement report. and Voila!

Can’t wait! Upload your custom Image in Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams

Microsoft confirmed with an update to the original Office 365 notification (MC208577) that they will allow Teams users to upload their own custom background images in May 2020. However, if you can’t wait, you can upload your own images today.

On the PC you are using, go to; %AppData%\Microsoft\Teams\Backgrounds\Uploads folder and you should be able to select those images for a meeting background.

Upload custom image for Microsoft Teams

I have uploaded large high-fidelity JPEG photos to this folder and been able to use them as a background, but it seems like resizing the background to 1 MB or thereabouts is a good idea. Apart from deleting the image file from the folder, there’s no way to remove it from a PC after it’s uploaded. If you use Teams on several devices, you’ll also find that images don’t roam across devices. You must upload and maintain images on each device.

On Macs, the images should be copied to:
/users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/Backgrounds/Uploads

SharePoint 2010 Extended Support End Date

15 Sunday Sep 2019

The date is: 13 of October 2020 .. so a year from now I’d say.

Please check Microsoft Product Cycle from this link, Here

And you can search for whatever Microsoft Products to see the end supported date.

Note that If you still have SharePoint 2010 Farm, start planning for Migration and honestly speaking just go to SharePoint 2019. and use the new Modern Experience; in which I will write about in a new post.

Unfortunately no direct migration, you still have to go to SP2013 then 2016 and finally 2019.

You will see Servers for each farm, you can use Azure VMs temp for migration that will help you to reduce Servers cost unless you have the resources on-premises.

Also I will write how to plan for your migration.

Hope that helps.

When to backup Content DB using SQL backup and when to backup site collection using PowerShell

15 Sunday Sep 2019

Backup, SharePoint 2016, SharePoint 2019

We use Backup Content DB using SQL back up most likely for Migrations Option, meaning you are migrating from SharePoint 2016 to SharePoint 2019.

in that case, to migrate we use the command Mount-SPContentDatabase

So most likely this is used for migrations.

But if you use the Backup-SPSite option using PowerShell, then you may be moving your site collection in the same Farm from one web application to another and you can definitely move it from one Farm to another but within the same SharePoint Version, so this is not migration.

So the what do you want to do is …. what you will use..

Hope that helps understand things right.
